Soft-Flex Wire is finished with the use of a crimping tool and crimp beads/tubes.

14 to 16 gauge: Very heavy and thick wire. Use with heavy duty tools. (for hardened steel)
18 gauge: Thick wire. Use either heavy duty or regular jewelry tools
20 gauge: Medium thick wire. Use with regular jewelry tools.
22 gauge: Medium wire. Use with regular jewelry tools.
This gauge and heavier retains it shape well.  (with the exception of “Artistic Wire” or “Dead Soft” wire).
24 gauge: Medium thin wire. Use with regular jewelry tools. The wire straightening pliers are
recommended for use with this wire when it kinks.
26 gauge: Thin wire.
28, 30 gauge: Very fine wire. Tools with very fine tips should be used with this wire. This wire kinks quite a bit and a wire straightening pliers is essential for use with this size wire.

Wire Gauge Tool: To measure the thickness of wire. The gauge is smallest “hole/slot in which the wire fits.

Most base metal headpins and ear wires are 22 to 24 gauge wire.
